AIDAnova

AIDAnova

Cleaner energy on the high seas: AIDAnova is the largest and cleanest cruise ship ever built in Germany. It’s the world’s first ever ocean liner with an LNG drive system, which fully prevents the release of particulate matter and sulphur oxides and significantly reduces the emission of nitrogen oxides and carbon dioxide. Thanks to this technology, AIDAnova is the first cruise ship to be awarded the “Blauer Engel” environmental seal by the German government. MEYER WERFT spent ten years developing the impressive vessel. It’s the first gas-powered ship in the Helios Class – two structurally identical sister ships are set to follow in 2021 and 2023.

Three tanks in the belly of the ship can hold around 3,500 cubic metres of liquefied natural gas, which is enough to fuel a two-week cruise. The gas is cooled to -162°C to turn it into a liquid. AIDAnova has 2,626 staterooms on 20 decks, which also house spacious restaurants and entertainment areas – including a climbing wall, sports deck and waterslides. It’s also the first AIDA vessel with cabins for single travellers. The ship joined the AIDA fleet at the end of 2018.
