Viking 1

Viking 1 was delivered by MEYER WERFT in 1970. It was the first of four sister ships built for the Finnish shipping company AB Sally.

The car and passenger ferry was one of the so-called “Papenburg Sisters”, a series of nine almost structurally identical ro-ro ferries. Thanks to its 1A ice class rating, it could also be used on routes with adverse ice conditions. Viking 1 initially formed a link between Naantali on the Finnish coast and Kapellskär in Sweden.

Viking 1 was sold and renamed on several occasions from 1982. In 2000, the ferry capsized during a storm in the Red Sea. Fagr, as the ship was known at the time, was then raised and scrapped.
