Viking 5

In 1974, MEYER WERFT delivered yard number S. 573 to the Finnish shipping company AB Sally. The car and passenger ferry was one of the so-called “Papenburg Sisters”, a series of nine almost structurally identical ro-ro ferries.

Thanks to its 1A ice class rating, Viking 5 could also be used on routes with adverse ice conditions. It initially operated between Helsinki and Stockholm. The ferry was sold and renamed on several occasions over the following decades. In 1985, it was converted into a hotel ship in the Danish city of Aalborg. In summer 2015, the ship formerly known as “Viking 5” was scrapped in the Turkish town of Aliağa. It was called “Boughaz” at the time.
